WaterSmart Yard Contest 2016 (off line)

Weekly Water Champion -
May 1st until September 1st, 2016
***The 2016 contest is now closed. Thank you to the many savvy savers who entered the contest this summer. You are all water champions! Check back in in Spring 2017 for details of next year’s contest***

Contest details:
  • Do you go above and beyond to save water? Maybe you have a golden lawn or drought-tolerant, native plants? Perhaps you collect rainwater, re-use water for watering your plants, use mulch in your garden beds, or save water in other ways? If you answered “yes” to any of the above, congratulations! You are a water saver. Enter Team WaterSmart's water saver contest for a chance at the weekly prize draw and at the September grand prize draw for a rain barrel!

  • Team WaterSmart will be accepting contest entries from residents across the Regional District of Nanaimo who are doing a great job of saving water outdoors, including those on private wells!

  • To enter simply submit 100 words or less on how you are being water smart - include a digital photo if you can. Send nominations by email to watersmart@rdn.bc.ca or visit our booth and one of the Region’s many community events.

  • Those entered will receive a yard sign to display as a way to recognize their efforts in the community.

  • Prize draw will occur every Friday and the weekly winner will receive a local recreation pass and collapsible water bottle. All who nominate and are nominated will be entered into the September 1st grand prize draw to win a rain barrel!

  • Weekly draw winners will be notified by phone or email on Fridays, and will be profiled on social media the following week.

  • If you’ve got a neighbour who’s a champion water saver and want to recognize their conservation efforts, you can nominate them using the same entry form. Be sure to include your name and contact info as well so that you can also be entered into the rain barrel draw!
