Home Based Business

Home Based Business To facilitate the development of Home Based Businesses (HBB) and update land use bylaws to reflect current trends in the RDN, the Regional Board adopted Bylaw No. 500.270, which addresses HBB operations within the RDN.

These regulations apply to all HBBs located in Electoral Areas A, C, E, G and H. They do not apply to HBBs located on Gabriola Island, the Coombs-Errington Area, or within the member municipalities of Nanaimo, Parksville and Qualicum Beach.

A Home Based Business Registry has been established to increase awareness of applicable regulations and to promote economic development and tourism related business within the RDN. Registration is mandatory for all HBBs in the applicable electoral areas. All HBBs within the RDN however do have an opportunity to be listed with the Business Registry.
